Villagers make glutinous rice cakes to welcome Spring Festival

Every time the Spring Festival approaches, villagers in Fatang Village, Yuxi Town, Yizhang County are busy making glutinous rice cakes, which is a traditional custom of the village to welcome the New Year.

As one of the representatives of Yizhang County's characteristic New Year's goods, it is not only a delicious snack, but also carries the beautiful expectation of family reunion.

In a farmyard of Fatang Village, relatives, friends and neighbors gathered together and kneaded the glutinous rice flour, sorghum flour and water into a dough. While shaping the dough skillfully, they chatted about the life and the agricultural production,with their faces full of contentment and joy.

When round raw glutinous rice cakes with red and yellow colors are ready, villagers then put them into a steamer, leaving them to be steamed slowly for 30 minutes, before the soft, sticky, and delicious glutinous rice cakes can be served.

The freshly cooked sticky glutinous rice cake is steaming hot, emitting a fragrant aroma of rice. Adults prefer to dip it in chili sauce, while children prefer to coat it with a thick layer of sugar.
