First Dongjiang Lake 'Winter Swimming in Summer' Challenge kicks off in Zixing

On August 27, the first Dongjiang Lake “Winter Swimming in Summer” Challenge in Chenzhou city, along with Hunan Province “Winter Swimming in Summer ” Invitational Tournament, kicked off at the Dongjiang Bay Aquatic Sports Center in Zixing City.

The weather temperature was as high as 37°C that day, but the water temperature in Dongjiang Bay was as low as 12°C. Nearly 300 winter swimmers from 18 teams from all over the province competed in the 400-meter swimming challenge. When the starting whistle blew, the competitors swam as quickly as possible, slashing waves in the water and struggling to move forward.

Zixing City, located at 25° north latitude and 125 meters above sea level, has a long history, rich heritage, beautiful ecology, prosperous industries and a variety of landscapes. It is known as the “Water Town in Dream” and is one of the top 100 counties with development potentials in China and one of the top 10 counties for high-quality economic development in Hunan Province.

The Dongjiang Bay provincial tourist resort in the lower reaches of Dongjiang Lake and Xiaodongjiang integrates mountains, water and city, and is a good place to carry out cultural activities, provide health care and have holidays.

Dongjiang Lake Big Data Industrial Park and the training and competition venue for canoeing and rowing in Hunan Province are located here. The water flow here is stable and the water is clean.

The water temperature in summer is maintained at 8 to 12°C, and the difference between the weather temperature and the water temperature is 25°C. The water temperature has reached the standard for winter swimming.

This event is one of the activities in Zixing City for the 2022 Chenzhou Tourism Development Conference. It aims to promote the development of the local tourism through sports events.
