Chenzhou Hehua Fish

Chenzhou Hehua Fish is produced in mountainous areas at the altitude above 500 meters in the Wuling and Luoxiao mountain ranges in Chenzhou City. It is a national geographical indication agricultural product and won the gold medal at the China (Central) Agricultural Expo. It is a traditional specialty of Chenzhou with a breeding history of more than 3,000 years.

Hehua Fish refer to local carp that grow in terraced paddy fields with cold spring water. As they feed on fallen Hehua (rice flowers), the fish meat has a sweet and fragrant taste. They are highly favored by consumers. Their price is more than three times that of ordinary carp.

There are over 200,000 mu (about 13333.33 hectares) of high mountain terraced fields in the city, with an annual output of more than 4 million kilograms.

Hehua fish are easy to breed, with low costs, fast results, and good market prospects. The Hehua fish industry has become an important industry to increase farmers’ income in the mountainous areas. In traditional production areas such as Beihu District, Suxian District, and Yizhang County, a high-altitude Hehua fish tourism industry has also been developed based on the fish culture, customs and allusiosns, injecting vitality to rural tourism economy.
