Hunan Opera

Guiyang is an ancient county with a history of 1,000 years. Hunan Opera is regarded as the soul of Guiyang’s traditional culture. In late Ming and early Qing Dynasties, Hunan Opera was spread to Guiyang and underwent hundreds of years of development. Founded in 1951, Guiyang Hunan Opera Troupe mainly performs Hunan Opera and Kun Opera.

In order to protect traditional arts and tap the Hunan Kun Opera culture in Guiyang, in December 2011, Guiyang Hunan Opera Troupe was renamed as the Hunan Opera Protection and Inheritance Center of Guiyang County.

Nowadays, “watching, singing and listening to operas” has become an indispensable part in the daily life of Guiyang people. At present, Guiyang has sorted out more than 100 traditional pieces of the opera. “The Tale of the White Snake”, “Fan Lihua”, etc. are popular with the local people.
