Linwu county launches ‘longevity banquet’

After being approved as the hometown of longevity in China, a table of “longevity banquet” in Linwu County not only showcases local characteristic flavors, but also provides solutions for modern people’s healthy lives.

The “longevity banquet” that takes China’s 24 solar terms as the timeline follows the ancient dietary wisdom, and carefully presents 24 seasonal dishes with local products in Linwu as the core.

Among them, the renowned Linwu duck is a highlight of the banquet due to its tight flesh, delicious taste, and rich nutrition.  

Long Changqin, the production director of Xishangxi Hotel, introduced that this Linwu duck pot with Tianhe taro is made of Linwu duck pieces, and the taro stem is specially processed to remove astringency. Taro is stewed with duck meat to blend the flavors together. At the same time, radix fici simplicissimae adds a unique aroma to the dish.

Another specialty dish, Hehua fish, is made from fish raised in clear water from high mountains. It is first pan fried in tea oil, and then steamed to preserve the fresh and sweet taste of the fish meat.

In addition, the welcoming youcha, named “Fu Shou”, not only showcases regional culture, but also symbolizes “tea warms guests and brings blessings and longevity”, which is in line with the banquet welcoming ceremony and longevity theme.

Steamed Pumpkin is also a pleasant dish. the golden pumpkin symbolizes wealth and reunion. The steaming process preserves the original flavor of the ingredients, reflecting the concept of light and healthy diet. And the black Umi rice in it is rich in health, presenting the joy of a bountiful harvest at the beginning of autumn.

Each dish tells the unique flavor nurtured by the mountains and waters of Linwu.

In September 2024, Linwu County was approved as the hometown of longevity in China. The local dietary culture contains simple yet profound wisdom for prolonging life.

Taking this as an opportunity, Xishangxi Hotel delved into the local longevity culture resources and incorporated the “longevity secrets” into the banquet design.

The chef team combined  traditional techniques with modern nutritional science. While preserving the original flavor of the ingredients, they introduced a series of special dishes.

These dishes are characterized by low salt, less oil, diverse ingredients and balanced nutrition, aligning with the essence of longevity diet, allowing guests to nourish their bodies and minds while enjoying the taste.

The design of the entire banquet runs through the 24 solar terms of the year, with seasonal ingredients for each solar term, which is created according to the principles of homology of medicine and food and health preservation.

In terms of cooking methods, more techniques such as stewing, steaming, and blanching are used to avoid deep frying and excessive compound seasoning, in order to highlight the light and original flavor of the ingredients themselves.

It’s hoped that through this banquet, one can improve the sub-health status of modern people caused by imbalanced nutrition and long-term staying up late.

The launch of the “longevity banquet” not only set a new benchmark for the integration of traditional culture and health concepts in the catering industry of Linwu County, but also became a culinary cultural card showcasing the regional charm of Linwu.
