After the project is put into operation, it will achieve flexible mutual assistance between the State Grid and the China Southern Power Grid, promote the ecological optimization of power resources in Hunan and Guangdong provinces, and effectively enhance the stable power supply capacity of Hunan.

The back-to-back interconnection project between Hunan and Guangdong provinces is a key project in the national “14th Five-Year Plan” for power planning, as well as a major strategic project to achieve interconnection between the State Grid and the China Southern Power Grid, and promote the construction of a unified national power market.

The total investment of the project is 5.755 billion yuan, jointly funded by State Grid and China Southern Power Grid. It is expected to be fully put into operation in June 2027.

After the completion of the project, the surplus electricity from different periods can be transmitted to the other side of the power grid for flexible mutual assistance based on the differences in new energy output and power load peak periods between the two provinces and two power grids, effectively improving the power regulation and emergency support capabilities between the two provinces and two power grids.

In recent years, Hunan has focused on addressing the problems about sufficient and green power energy, and accelerated the construction of a new power system with Hunan characteristics. During the 14th Five-Year Plan period, Nanchang-Changsha, Jingmen-Changsha, and Ningxia-Hunan power projects have been completed and put into operation in the province.

The stable power supply capacity has increased by 20 million kilowatts compared to the end of the 13th Five-Year Plan. The province's power supply has shifted from being far short to being in tight balance with demand, enabling users to be completely unaware of power outages, restrictions, or fluctuations in power supply during peak hours in their normal production and life.

It has also shifted from the end of the power grid to the regional power exchange hub center, laying a solid energy foundation for the high-quality development of the province.
