In May 2023, the Chenzhou Economic and Trade Delegation first proposed the intention to establish a friendly city relationship during their inspection in South Africa and Zambia.

In February 2024, Chenzhou City signed letters of intent for friendly cooperation with Delmas City. In July of the same year, mayor of Delmas City led a delegation to visit Chenzhou and signed a cultural and tourism framework cooperation agreement.

This friendly city agreement is an important milestone in the cooperation and exchange between the two sides. In the future, Chenzhou will engage in regular and multi-level exchanges and cooperation with the two cities in various fields such as economy and trade, education and public health, jointly contributing to Chenzhou-Africa cooperation.

Delmas City

Delmas is located about 66 kilometers east of Johannesburg, the economic center of South Africa. It is under the jurisdiction of Mpumalanga Province, one of the most economically dynamic provinces in South Africa.

Coal mining and agriculture account for the majority of the city's total GDP, making them the largest contributors among all economic sectors. In addition, the city is a commercial and industrial center for surrounding agricultural and mining communities, with various businesses including retail stores, service providers, and manufacturing enterprises.

The manufacturing industry has grown vigorously, with food processing and light industry being the main components. The railway line is an important transportation hub that connects the city with major industrial and commercial centers in South Africa, including Johannesburg and Pretoria, making Delmas a strategic hub for the transportation and distribution of various commodities.
