The third Asian Youth Games kicked off in the Kingdom of Bahrain from October 29 to 30.
Hu Wenxun and Xiao Ao, young weightlifters from Chenzhou, secured two gold medals and one bronze with their superb skills and stable performance, vividly demonstrating the strength and spirit of Chinese young athletes on the international stage.
At the age of only 14, Hu Wenxun demonstrated her high level in women's competitions in the 77kg-odd category. She performed outstandingly with a snatch of 115 kilograms, a clean and jerk of 152 kilograms, and a total score of 267 kilograms.

Not only did she steadily win two gold medals, but she also broke three world youth records in this level of snatch, clean and jerk, and total score.
At the same time, she also won three Asian Youth Games records.
Hu Wenxun was selected and cultivated by Chenzhou Sports School and was sent to the Hunan Provincial Professional Team in 2021. She has previously won the championships of the 2023 and 2024 Hunan Provincial Weightlifting Championships, as well as the 2025 National Youth Championship.

17-year-old Xiao Ao won a bronze medal in the men’s 79kg clean and jerk competition.

As an athlete cultivated by Chenzhou Sports School, who was sent to the professional team in Hunan Province in 2022, Xiao Ao has already won the gold medal in the 2022 Hunan Provincial Games and the championship in the 2025 National U-Series Weightlifting Competition.

The Asian Youth Games is the largest youth comprehensive sports event in Asia, held every four years with participants aged 14 to 17. The outstanding performance of young athletes from Chenzhou in the competition cannot be separated from the solid support of the sports talent training system in Chenzhou.
As a public nine-year compulsory education school that combines sports and education, Chenzhou Sports School mainly undertakes the selection, training, and recommendation of outstanding sports talents in the city to provincial professional teams.
Since its establishment, the school has successively cultivated and selected Olympic champions such as Yi Siling, Hou Zhihui, Luo Shifang, and Liu Huanhua. And it is known as the “cradle of world champions and Olympic champions” in Chenzhou.
