The first batch of imported goods in Hunan province under the new customs supervision model for multimodal transport (sea-rail intermodal) completed the customs clearance procedures at the Chenzhou Land Port on March 31.

Weighing 168 tons in total, the goods were shipped from Onne Port, Nigeria, and transported to Chenzhou via Guangzhou Nansha Port through sea-rail intermodal transport.

The new customs supervision model for multimodal transport is a pilot reform initiative launched by the General Administration of Customs. By integrating the “one-document system” and “one-container system” into multimodal transport supervision, the model efficiently connects coastal ports, border ports and inland hubs, forming an efficient international multimodal transport corridor, and achieving deep integration of the province’s logistics network with the port cluster of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area.

Zhang Yubing, general manager of Chenzhou Land Port Development Co., Ltd., noted: “Now, just one declaration required for the entire sea-rail intermodal process, manual intervention has been reduced by 90%, the efficiency of cargo transfer increased by 30%, and the comprehensive logistics cost lowered by 20%.”

This first import shipment represents an important practice of customs services in promoting economic cooperation between China and Africa in Hunan Province. In the future, it will continue to optimize the supervision model and introduce more beneficial measures for businesses.
