Emergency road in Wugaishan International Hunting Ground to open soon

Construction is in full swing for the forest fire emergency road project (Suxian section) in Chenzhou City. The final work of asphalt laying is currently underway, marking the project entering the final sprint. As planned, the project will be basically completed and officially put into use by the end of March.

This project is a key livelihood project in Suxian District aimed at fortifying forest ecological security, improving forest infrastructure, and boosting the integrated development of culture and tourism around the Wugaishan area.

The project is located in the Wugaishan area of Suxian District. The construction spans from the Wugaishan International Hunting Ground to Biyun Peak of Wugai Mountain. It connects the core area and key nodes of the forest area, effectively unclogging the "arteries" of forest transportation and emergency rescue.

With a total investment of 21.5578 million yuan, and a total construction length of 8.812 kilometers, the road is built to the Class II standard of a Grade 4 highway.

Specifically, it features a subgrade width of 5.5 meters, and an asphalt pavement width of 4.5 meters. The design standards accommodate both emergency traffic and daily management needs, supporting the passage of forest fire emergency vehicles, patrol vehicles, and small tourist vehicles.

The project officially started construction on September 20, 2025. After nearly 6 months of intense construction, the main construction has been completed. The final work such as asphalt laying is now in progress to ensure the timely and high-quality completion of the construction tasks.

Wugaishan State-owned Forest Farm is the only large and medium-sized state-owned forest farm in the urban area of Chenzhou City, safeguarding nearly 100,000 mu (6,666.67 hectares) of forests, and boasting abundant wild animal and plant resources.

As an important ecological barrier and a core component of the Pan-Wugai Mountain cultural and tourism area, the forest farm previously relied on mostly gravel roads, which were muddy in rainy days and icy in winter, causing severe transportation inconvenience.

This not only hindered the efficiency of forest fire prevention material transportation and emergency response, but also restricted the development and utilization of eco-tourism resources in the forest areas.

Once completed, the road will fundamentally resolve the traffic woes plaguing forest fire prevention in the area, delivering multifaceted benefits.

In terms of ecological protection, emergency vehicles will gain direct access to Aoshang Town and key forest regions, greatly reducing response time, enhancing forest fire prevention, emergency rescue, and pest control capabilities.

It will provide solid transportation support to protect the the farm’s green mountains, safeguard nationally protected species such as Bole trees and yews, as well as wild animals such as water deer and small spirit cats, further strengthening the ecological security barrier of southern Hunan.

As for cultural and tourism empowerment, this road will connect the Wugai Mountain International Hunting Ground, the Fenglin Temple on the Biyun Peak and other natural and cultural landscapes, improving the transportation network in the Wugai Mountain area.

This will help unlock the eco-tourism potential of the forest area, promote the deep integration of ecology and tourism, and provide strong support for Suixian District to boost its economy through cultural tourism and invigorate the Wugai Mountain area.
