Ancient villages in Chenzhou City

Chenzhou has numerous unknown ancient villages, most of which boast well preserved ancient architectural complexes that blend architectural styles of different regions including Central Plains, Jiangsu Zhejiang, and Hakka. 94 ancient villages have been included in the list of traditional Chinese villages.

Among them, Rucheng County has many exquisite ancient ancestral halls. The complex of ancient ancestral halls in Rucheng County was selected as the seventh batch of national key cultural relics protection units in 2013.

In 2017, Chenzhou City issued “Measures on Protecting Ancient Residential Houses in Chenzhou City”, which brought back the glory of the once declining ancient village culture.

Traditional crafts such as burning incense dragon, wood carving, and painted sculpture have been listed as intangible cultural heritage, and their inheritors will pass on the skills from generation to generation.
