2nd Amateur Drama Troupe Opera Competition held in Linwu County

The 2nd Amateur Drama Troupe Opera Competition of the Ecological Protection (Experimental) Zone of Linwu County, Chenzhou City was held on November 1.

20 outstanding plays and quyi performances took turns on stage at the New Era Cultural Square of Linwu County Microfilm City. This cultural feast, which combines traditional heritage and innovative vitality, not only showcases the profound opera heritage of Linwu county, but also builds a bridge for cultural exchange between Hunan and Guangdong.

Compared to the first session, “cross-provincial exchange” was a major highlight this time. Besides the local teams from Chenzhou such as Guiyang, Jiahe and Yizhang, two teams from Lianzhou City, Guangdong Province were specially invited.

An excerpt from Killing Three Monsters, a characteristic Qiju Opera, was performed with the clashing of drums and gongs, fully demonstrating the charm of traditional opera.

The folk song “Beautiful Scenery in Lianzhou” conveyed the local style, immersing the audience in it.

“Participating in this event is not only to learn from senior masters, but also to promote the cultural exchange and mutual learning between the two regions’ opera arts. We hope that through such activities, we can jointly inherit and promote the Chinese opera culture,” said Shi Xianming, general director of the Qiju Opera and Artistic Troupe Association of Lianzhou City, Guangdong Province.

Linwu County is the only cultural ecological protection (experimental) zone for opera in Hunan Province, with a rich opera cultural heritage. There are 22 types of operas, including Nuo opera, Qiju Opera, Peking Opera.

Among them, Linwu Nuo Opera, Linwu Qiju Opera, and Linwu Huadeng Xiaodiao have been respectively included in the national and provincial, municipal intangible cultural heritage representative lists.

Nowadays, the county with flourishing opera is activating the inheritance vitality through competitions, injecting inexhaustible impetus for its cultural prosperity and development.
