Sweet wormwood plants (Artemisia annua) are growing well in Lianxi Village, Zhushan Township of Anren County. No one could have imagined that this green medicinal field was still a barren hill covered with weeds two months ago.

With a mild and humid climate, fertile soil, there has always been a tradition of planting traditional Chinese medicinal herbs in Zhushan Township. In recent years, the township has planted sweet wormwood and Abelmo schus manihot (L.) Medicus in idle mountainous areas.
Kuang Zhi’an, Party branch secretary of Lianxi Village, introduced that the village planned to build a 600-mu (40 hectares) medicinal herb base this year, mainly planting sweet wormwood, Abelmoschus manihot (L.) Medicus and angelica.
Currently, more than 200 mu (13.33 hectares) of sweet wormwood, 60 mu (4 hectares) of Abelmoschus manihot (L.) Medicus, and 100 mu (6.67 hectares) of angelica have been planted. In the future, the village plans to plant medicinal herbs on all available idle land.
To develop the traditional Chinese medicinal herb industry and reassure villagers in planting medicinal materials, Zhushan Township provides free technical training, advances funding for seedlings to reduce the burden on farmers, and provides guaranteed purchase to reduce market risks.
At the same time, with a model involving enterprises, cooperatives and farmers, it has signed agreements for the construction of traditional Chinese medicine demonstration bases with about 1,000 mu (66.67 hectares) and guaranteed purchase contracts with enterprises, allowing villagers to plant traditional Chinese medicine with no worries.
This year, the planting area of medicinal herbs in the whole township has exceeded 3,000 mu (200 hectares), with traditional Chinese medicinal herbs such as Gang Mei, Artemisia annua and Abelmoschus manihot (L.) Medicus.
Since the beginning of spring, more than 400 villagers have found work at their doorstep, and over 120 people have become growers themselves. Currently, the cultivation of traditional Chinese medicine in Zhushan Township has strengthened the village and enriched the people, injecting a continuous stream of vitality into rural revitalization.
