13th CMGE ends

2025-05-21

The 13th China (Hunan) International Mineral and Gem Expo (CMGE) kicked off in Chenzhou on May 16.

With the theme of “Picking a Star for You”, this year’s CMGE attracted 35 countries and regions with over 10,000 rare mineral specimens around the world. The five-day expo attracted 240,000 visitors, with a total transaction amount of 2.1 billion yuan and a single largest transaction exceeding 60 million yuan.

Since the inception of the expo in 2015, it has become one of the most influential annual events in the global mineral crystal sector.

Every exhibit attracted visitors from home and abroad to stop and watch.

In the independent display cabinet in the center of top collectors’ museums at home and abroad, a large molybdenite specimen with unique crystal structure and bright color became the focus of the expo, marveled by countless visitors.

This exhibit, brought by Zheng Jianrong, an international famous collector of mineral gems, is the world’s finest wulfenite produced in the Tarim Basin of Xinjiang. This item has been in his collection for more than 20 years, and it’s the first time that it’s been on public display.

Good exhibits with scientific research values and aesthetic values not only showcase the unique advantages of China’s local mineral resources, but also presents the diversity of global mineral gemstones, and promotes the popularization of mineral science and international trade cooperation.

The juxtaposition of Pakistani aquamarine and Linwu Tongtian jade not only highlights the global mobility of mineral resources, but also explores the crossover path of “minerals plus cultural tourism”. The cultural inclusiveness of the expo is attracting more international collectors.

Deputy Consular Administrator of the Consulate General of the Republic of Malawi in Hunan Province introduced his country's mining resources at the opening ceremony and sought technical cooperation with China in the fields of exploration and processing.

Robert Lavinsky, president of Arkenstone Minerals Company in the United States, as a “Chinese mineral enthusiast”, praised Chenzhou as a “cradle of global mineral treasures”.

This expo broke through the trade boundary of traditional exhibitions, built a three-dimensional platform for cultural integration, and continued to heat up cross-border cultural exchanges.

What is even more touching is that the 13-year-old Shenzhen boy Huang Yanjia and Pakistani exhibitor Jalil Gems became friends for aquamarine gemstones and exchanged precious specimens.

This warm interaction confirms the infectious power of mineral culture that transcends national borders and age.

At the Returned International Mineral Exhibition, many treasures that were once cherished by international collectors, such as green fluorite, red fluorite, specularite, and cassiterite aquamarine, have now returned to the homeland and helped increase the awareness of natural resource conservation.

In the science popularization exhibition, teenagers observed the microstructure of minerals through a microscope and participated in fossil restoration workshops, touching these “cosmic dust from 4.6 billion years ago” with their own hands.

The cultural and creative products, which transform geological elements into luminous star chart handmade materials, allowed viewers to experience the romance of “holding starlight” in fluorite splicing.

The online mini exhibitionattracted the Gen Zs to visit this expo through digital mineral specimens by means of AR.

The exhibition that combines online and offline forms breaks through the time and space limitations of traditional exhibitions and builds an “everlasting” industry ecosystem.

Just after the opening ceremony, a Pakistani exhibitor Zara, who participated for the second time, negotiated a deal and became a long-term partner with last year’s clients, confirming the commercial value of the expo.

Robert Lavinsky, the President of the Arkenstone in the United States, purchased the giant Iceland spar and the world-class wulfenite brought by Zheng Jianrong for 68.88 million yuan.

There were also other such high-value transactions, which contributed to the total exhibition turnover of 2.1 billion yuan.

During previous exhibitions, the number of tourists in various scenic spots of Chenzhou increased significantly, high-end hotels around the exhibition halls were fully occupied, and the daily flow of high-speed rail passengers in the city increased by nearly 30%.

In the past 10 years, CMGE has directly driven nearly 5 billion yuan in consumption in tourism, hotels, transportation, and other industries in Chenzhou, with over 100,000 employees in the surrounding industries, from which we can get a glimpse of the multiplier effect of the exhibition economy.

The 2025 China Bismuth and Tellurium Industry Development Forum, which was held during this exhibition, focused on key technological fields such as rare and precious metal bio metallurgy and clean preparation of polymetallic ores, and released the technical requirements for the development of the nonferrous metal industry, providing a platform for upstream and downstream cooperation in the industry chain.

Ten key projects with a total amount of 3.34 billion yuan were signed on the site, covering such areas as deep processing of rare and precious metals, promoting the transformation of Chenzhou from a resource exporting region to a high value-added industrial base.
