“This year, our village has transferred over 500 mu (33.33 hectares) of land for the planting of early rice and late rice,”said Li Zhuobiao, the village secretary.

With its advantageous resources, the town government has made efforts to develop the selenium-rich characteristic agriculture, in a bid to boost rural revitalization.

In recent years, the village has integrated idle land resources, introduced a high-quality rice variety, and created a 500 mu (33.33 hectares) selenium-rich rice demonstration base  to develop the selenium-rich rice industry.

It’s working with the provincial-level leading enterprise Jiahe Rice Industry to jointly create the selenium-rich rice brand.

To further enhance the comprehensive agricultural production capacity, the village actively sought funding from relevant departments, built 4,000 to 5,000 meters of water channels to connect the water system around the village, providing a solid guarantee for stable grain production.

At the same time, it has established a double cropping selenium-rich rice demonstration base and a planting base for early rice-late rice-mushroom rotation, to promote the high-quality development of the selenium-rich rice industry.

The change of Shantan Village from abandoned land to the current granary is a vivid practice of Tanping Town’s insistence on industrial development and deep exploration of resource advantages.

Through a business model involving enterprises, family farms and large growers, the village has transformed selenium-rich resources into capitals for enriching the people and promoting rural revitalization.
